Bhupesh Thakkar

BIO

Bhupesh Thakkar is a senior vice president and the General Manager of Bechtel’s LNG and Regas business. Bhupesh has extensive LNG project experience, having served most recently as program manager for Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi and Sabine Pass liquefaction projects on the U.S Gulf Coast. The facilities currently have eight operating liquefaction production trains, with a ninth train under construction. At full operation, the facilities will have a combined production capacity of about 45mtpa.

Bhupesh joined Bechtel in 1989 as an engineer in the company’s Power business, working across projects in the United States, Middle East and Asia developing his engineering experience with cogeneration power units, piping evaluations, fire protection systems, turbines, water treatment and cooling facilities.

In 2006, he joined the Oil, Gas & Chemicals Global Business Unit in Houston, Texas as engineering manager, responsible for providing overall execution oversight for the LNG and integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) projects. He later joined Chevron’s VRSH Project in 2008 as deputy project manager before taking on overall leadership as project manager for the Gladstone LNG project in Australia from FEED in 2009 through completion of EPC execution, commissioning and startup between 2011-2015. GLNG is one of three LNG facilities Bechtel simultaneously constructed on Curtis Island, on the east coast of Australia, with a combined total of six LNG trains producing more than 28mtpa.

Bhupesh was elected a Bechtel principal vice president in 2011 and senior vice president in 2017. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from L.D. Engineering College in India and a Master of Engineering Management from the University of Maryland University College. He is a registered professional mechanical engineer in the District of Columbia.
