Mike VanderMate

VP of Engineering & Construction Sempra Infrastructure

BIO

Mike VanderMate is vice president of engineering & construction for Sempra LNG. In this role, VanderMate is responsible for overseeing engineering, procurement and construction activities for Sempra LNG’s projects.

VanderMate has more than 30 years of experience in engineering, construction, commissioning, project management and business management. Most recently, he was project director and senior project manager for multi-billon natural gas liquefaction projects at LNG Canada, Corpus Christi LNG and Sabine Pass LNG in the U.S. and PNG LNG Services in Papua, New Guinea.

During his career in Bechtel, he served in various roles of increasing responsibility, including general manager of the LNG Tank business, project manager for QCLNG Trains 3, 4 and 5 in Australia, senior project manager Marathon Petroleum in Louisiana, project manager Chevron Energy Technology Company in Mississippi; global business development manager for cost-reimbursable and lump sum upstream and downstream global customers; and Brass LNG FEED business manager for the multiple billion dollar grassroots LNG project in Nigeria. VanderMate began his career with Bechtel in project controls.

VanderMate is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering with a minor in project management from the University of Texas.
