President & CEO Commonwealth LNG
Paul Varello is the Founder and President of Commonwealth Projects, a company primarily focused on developing, building, owning and operating LNG projects. Commonwealth is currently involved in the development of an LNG export terminal near Cameron, Louisiana.
Prior to his current role, Paul was Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Construction Company, a publicly-held civil construction company. Before Sterling, he was Founder and Chairman of Commonwealth Engineering & Construction which specialized in the design and construction of LNG, refining, chemical and gas processing projects. Earlier in his career, Paul was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Ref-Fuel Company which developed, owned and operated power plants that converted solid municipal waste into energy. Prior to American Ref-Fuel, he was employed by Fluor Corporation for 18 years and was President of Fluor’s Process Sector. He has also served as Monitor Trustee for the United States Federal Trade Commission overseeing LNG tank business of CB&I.
Paul has been involved in the engineering & construction industry for more than 50 years. He holds a Civil Engineering degree from Villanova University and is a Registered Professional Engineer in California, Texas and Louisiana. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
